The 2018 Ford Edge SEL strikes a strong balance between everyday practicality and refined comfort, making it a smart choice for midsize SUV buyers. Positioned between the base SE and the more luxurious Titanium and Sport trims, the SEL offers a compelling mix of features, performance, and value. The design language is conservative but well-proportioned, giving the Edge a muscular stance without being overbearing. Inside, the SEL trim enhances the experience with upgraded materials and thoughtful touches that elevate the cabin beyond entry-level expectations.
Under the hood, the SEL trim typically comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine, delivering 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This engine offers ample power for city and highway driving, with a smooth six-speed automatic transmission that shifts confidently. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is available for those who need added traction in slippery conditions. The ride quality is composed and quiet, soaking up road imperfections without sacrificing handling, which feels secure and stable for a vehicle of this size.
The interior of the 2018 Edge SEL is one of its highlights. Seating is comfortable and supportive, with plenty of legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. The cabin materials feel solid, and soft-touch surfaces in key areas give it a more premium feel than some rivals. The driver-centric layout makes it easy to access controls without being distracting. Cargo capacity is generous, with 39.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 73.4 cubic feet when the seats are folded flat, offering excellent practicality for families and active lifestyles.
Tech and convenience features in the SEL trim are impressive for its price point. The standard SYNC 3 infotainment system includes an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, which makes smartphone integration seamless. Voice commands are intuitive, and the touchscreen responds quickly to input. Dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, satellite radio, and rear parking sensors all add to the everyday ease of driving and owning the Edge SEL. Optional packages can further enhance the offering with features like a hands-free liftgate, upgraded audio, navigation, and more driver-assistance technologies.
On the safety front, the 2018 Edge SEL includes a rearview camera and can be optioned with a suite of advanced safety features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assist. These systems work effectively without being overly intrusive, and they contribute to the Edge’s overall sense of security. Crash test ratings from major agencies were strong, adding to the SUV’s appeal for safety-conscious buyers.
Overall, the 2018 Ford Edge SEL offers a well-rounded package that caters to a wide range of drivers. It’s spacious, comfortable, tech-savvy, and capable, delivering the kind of versatility that midsize SUV shoppers demand without forcing them into a higher price bracket. Its understated design, solid performance, and user-friendly features make it a standout in a competitive segment.

RECALL NOTICE
What is a recall:
A safety recall involving a motor vehicle or an item of motor vehicle equipment can be independently conducted by a manufacturer or ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In either case, the manufacturer must file a public report describing the safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal motor vehicle safety standard, the involved vehicle/equipment population, the major events that resulted in the recall determination, a description of the remedy, and a schedule for the recall. NHTSA monitors each safety recall to ensure the manufacturers provide owners safe, free, and effective remedies according to the Safety Act and Federal regulations. Manufacturers are obligated to attempt to notify owners of recalled products. For vehicles, that means manufacturers merge their own records of vehicle purchasers with current state vehicle registration information. For equipment, where state registration records do not exist, manufacturers are obligated to notify their distribution chain and known purchasers of the recalled equipment. However, even if you do not receive a notification, if your vehicle, child restraint, or other item of equipment is involved in a safety recall, the manufacturer is obligated to provide a free remedy.
