2017 Volkswagen Golf Review:
"The 2017 Volkswagen Golf remains one of the best compact hatchbacks on the market, offering a refined driving experience, high-quality interior materials, and a practical yet stylish design. Its well-balanced chassis and precise steering make it a joy to drive, whether navigating city streets or cruising on the highway. The hatchback body style provides a level of versatility that many sedans in its class lack, making it an excellent choice for those who need both efficiency and functionality.
Under the hood, the 2017 Golf is powered by a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque with the automatic transmission (184 lb-ft with the manual). This engine delivers smooth acceleration and enough power to make daily commuting enjoyable. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, both of which offer refined performance. Fuel economy is also a strong point, with the Golf achieving up to 36 mpg on the highway, making it a great option for those looking to balance performance and efficiency.
Inside, the Golf continues to impress with its upscale cabin, featuring soft-touch materials, a clean dashboard layout, and an intuitive infotainment system. The 6.5-inch touchscreen with Volkswagen’s Car-Net App-Connect provides seamless smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The front seats are supportive and comfortable for long drives, while the rear seats offer ample legroom for passengers. Cargo space is another highlight, with 22.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 52.7 cubic feet with them folded, making the Golf one of the most practical compact cars available.
On the road, the Golf delivers a refined and composed ride, absorbing bumps smoothly while maintaining a sporty and agile feel. The steering is precise, and the suspension strikes a perfect balance between comfort and responsiveness. While not as aggressive as the high-performance GTI or Golf R, the standard Golf still provides an engaging driving experience that sets it apart from other compact cars. Safety is also a strong suit, with standard features including a rearview camera, antilock brakes, stability control, and a suite of airbags. Higher trims and special editions add advanced driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.
With its premium interior, enjoyable driving dynamics, and impressive practicality, the 2017 Volkswagen Golf remains a standout in the compact hatchback segment. Whether used as a daily commuter, a road trip companion, or a small family car, the Golf continues to deliver an excellent balance of efficiency, comfort, and European refinement. While some rivals may offer lower starting prices, few can match the Golf’s combination of driving pleasure and versatility."

RECALL NOTICE
What is a recall:
A safety recall involving a motor vehicle or an item of motor vehicle equipment can be independently conducted by a manufacturer or ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In either case, the manufacturer must file a public report describing the safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal motor vehicle safety standard, the involved vehicle/equipment population, the major events that resulted in the recall determination, a description of the remedy, and a schedule for the recall. NHTSA monitors each safety recall to ensure the manufacturers provide owners safe, free, and effective remedies according to the Safety Act and Federal regulations. Manufacturers are obligated to attempt to notify owners of recalled products. For vehicles, that means manufacturers merge their own records of vehicle purchasers with current state vehicle registration information. For equipment, where state registration records do not exist, manufacturers are obligated to notify their distribution chain and known purchasers of the recalled equipment. However, even if you do not receive a notification, if your vehicle, child restraint, or other item of equipment is involved in a safety recall, the manufacturer is obligated to provide a free remedy.
