2015 Mazda CX-5 Review:
"The 2015 Mazda CX-5 Touring strikes an impressive balance between practicality and driving enjoyment, making it one of the most compelling choices in the compact SUV segment for that model year. With sharp, engaging handling uncommon in this class, it delivers a driving experience that feels more like a sporty hatchback than a family crossover. This is largely due to Mazda’s focus on lightweight engineering and the SKYACTIV technology suite, which optimizes everything from chassis dynamics to engine efficiency.
Under the hood, the Touring trim is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, this setup offers brisk acceleration and smooth power delivery whether you're commuting in the city or merging onto the highway. The available all-wheel drive system adds extra confidence in adverse weather conditions without significantly hurting fuel economy, which remains excellent for the class—an EPA-estimated 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway in front-wheel drive form.
Inside, the CX-5 Touring feels more upscale than its price tag suggests. The interior is logically arranged and built with high-quality materials that resist wear and feel solid to the touch. The seats are supportive and comfortable for long drives, with cloth upholstery that’s both durable and refined. Rear seat space is generous for a compact SUV, and the 34.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats (expanding to 64.8 with them folded) adds practical appeal. Visibility is also a strong point, with a commanding view of the road and minimal blind spots.
Tech and safety features are well represented. The Touring trim adds a 5.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, HD radio, and USB input, as well as a rearview camera and upgraded six-speaker sound system. While the interface is relatively straightforward, some users might find the screen a bit small by today's standards. Safety ratings are excellent, and this trim includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert—features that were rare at this price point in 2015.
Overall, the 2015 Mazda CX-5 Touring remains a standout for drivers who want efficiency, style, and agility without sacrificing practicality. It avoids the numb driving feel that plagues many rivals, and it does so while still checking all the essential family-SUV boxes."
