The 2017 Ford Mustang EcoBoost represents a modern interpretation of the American muscle car, blending iconic design with advanced technology and a turbocharged powertrain that caters to both performance enthusiasts and everyday drivers. While traditionalists might gravitate toward the rumble of a V8, the EcoBoost model proves that a four-cylinder Mustang can deliver compelling performance without sacrificing efficiency.
Under the hood, the Mustang EcoBoost features a 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine producing 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. This engine is responsive and punchy, offering strong acceleration and surprising refinement. The optional 10-speed automatic transmission, introduced in some later models, wasn't yet available for the 2017 version, but the standard 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic still deliver satisfying shifts and a good connection to the road. With a 0–60 mph time in the low 5-second range, the EcoBoost confidently holds its own in spirited driving situations.
The chassis and suspension setup of the 2017 Mustang EcoBoost is impressively balanced. The independent rear suspension—introduced in the previous generation—transforms the handling dynamics of the Mustang, providing better ride comfort and cornering stability compared to its solid-axle predecessors. The steering is precise, and when equipped with the optional Performance Package, the EcoBoost gains upgraded brakes, a limited-slip differential, and a sportier suspension tuning that further enhances its athleticism.
Inside, the Mustang offers a driver-focused cockpit with a blend of retro flair and modern amenities. Materials quality is respectable for the class, though some hard plastics remain in places. The available SYNC 3 infotainment system is one of the most user-friendly on the market, offering fast responses and intuitive controls via its touchscreen interface. Front seats provide good support, especially with the available Recaro sport seats, although rear seat space remains tight as expected in this segment.
Fuel efficiency is another area where the EcoBoost shines compared to its V6 and V8 siblings. EPA estimates are around 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway when equipped with the automatic transmission, giving it a practical edge for daily driving without significantly compromising the fun factor. The Mustang EcoBoost also benefits from a range of available tech and safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control, although many of these were optional.
Overall, the 2017 Ford Mustang EcoBoost delivers a compelling mix of performance, style, and modern features. It proves that muscle car excitement doesn’t have to come at the cost of fuel economy or daily usability. For those seeking the Mustang experience with a sharper focus on balance and efficiency, the EcoBoost trim offers a well-rounded package.

RECALL NOTICE
What is a recall:
A safety recall involving a motor vehicle or an item of motor vehicle equipment can be independently conducted by a manufacturer or ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In either case, the manufacturer must file a public report describing the safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal motor vehicle safety standard, the involved vehicle/equipment population, the major events that resulted in the recall determination, a description of the remedy, and a schedule for the recall. NHTSA monitors each safety recall to ensure the manufacturers provide owners safe, free, and effective remedies according to the Safety Act and Federal regulations. Manufacturers are obligated to attempt to notify owners of recalled products. For vehicles, that means manufacturers merge their own records of vehicle purchasers with current state vehicle registration information. For equipment, where state registration records do not exist, manufacturers are obligated to notify their distribution chain and known purchasers of the recalled equipment. However, even if you do not receive a notification, if your vehicle, child restraint, or other item of equipment is involved in a safety recall, the manufacturer is obligated to provide a free remedy.
